Play At Home:
Baroque I (around 1600 - 1660)

This period marks the golden age of polyphony in European musical culture, but also the slowly growing awareness of another musical texture – homophony. In this period, the rules of polyphonic counterpoint become firmly established. Secular and religious music both flourish in this period. Although new music is still mainly supported and promoted by the religious and aristocratic powers, a growing market of music-for-the-masses sees the opening of the first opera houses and concert halls.
